Revlon Age Defying Spa Foundation: a review

Yesterday, I was in the market for a new foundation. My goals for this product were medium coverage (to hide sun damage from 5 years of living in Florida), a dewy finish (matte makes my skin feel too dry), and a nice light feel. I headed to http://www.icompact.com/make-up-reviews/foundation/ to see what other people liked. Based on the reviews, my first choice was to try Sally Hansen's Fast and Flawless Airbrush makeup, but my Target didn't carry that, so I decided to go with Revlon Age Defying Spa Foundation .

I was surprised by the packaging on this foundation. It comes with an attached brush for application. After struggling to get the product out (because I didn't notice the directions to turn the applicator into the "on" position), I proceeded to put entirely too much product on my face. The brush takes some getting used to. I ultimately needed to use my fingers to blend the foundation into my face. At first, it felt heavy and looked shiny. However it quickly sank into my skin and "mattified", as one might say. It gave the medium coverage that I have been looking for (and was not finding in my Mabelline Dream Matte Mousse or my Lancome Teint Idole). I also love the fact that it contains an SPF 18 WITHOUT using nasty chemical sunscreens. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the sunscreen ingredients, which is awesome! The product also contains Vitamin C, but I am skeptical that antioxidants in foundation can do much good.

I haven't given this foundation a thorough road test yet, but so far, I am really pleased. I'll update later to see how it wears in hot weather. As we are Texas, that won't be hard to do!

You have to start somewhere.

Years ago, I worked in the beauty industry. Specifically, I sold high-end cosmetics in a department store. For a medium-sized town in the South East, it was probably one of the more glamorous jobs out there. And the perks were great- free products whenever a new line came out, and training seminars at nice hotels with good eats and more free stuff. However, I never quite acclimated to the beauty world. My coworkers and managers would frequently chastise me for not wearing enough make-up (it was the late 80's. Heavy eyeliner, heavy blush, heavy everything). The only people who didn't seem to mind my lack of spackle were the customers. I was told more than once that a customer came to me because I was the only employee in the department who looked "normal". I took it as a compliment then, and, as I was very young, I could certainly get away with a natural look. But twenty years later, it takes some help to look "normal". And, frankly, I haven't been bringing my A-game lately. With a houseful of kiddos, whom I homeschool, and a part-time job from home, I've had a wealth of excuses to let the looks slide. But no more! I've been inspired lately by other bloggers who have been putting their own personal looks on the web for others to see, such as Allison:http://www.mywardrobetoday.com/ and Andie: http://whatandiewears.blogspot.com/ Just like the days when I made make-up approachable for my customers by taking a more mainstream approach, these ladies make fashion more approachable for me by wearing nice looking pieces that are in my budget and fit my lifestyle. They're busy, I'm busy, we're all busy. But if they can look good while they manage their busy lives, then so can we! Let's be inspired together!
